When current fillings fail, or new decay requires treatment we can often restore these teeth with a tooth-coloured filling material. These synthetic resin materials have many potential advantages over the “black” silver-mercury amalgams many are familiar with. These include forming a strong bond to the natural tooth, having a lower modulus of elasticity, less conduction of temperature change, and, of course, better esthetics. These materials are more demanding for the dentist and are not the best choice in a very few cases but are the treatment of choice at Lakeshore Woods Dental when relatively small defects need to be filled. Almost all insurance plans include the use of tooth-coloured fillings as part of their basic restorative coverage.
